Internship Profile: Joao Boente and Duluth FC

August 1, 2025
Joao Boente builds on past athletic media experiences with an amazing summer internship with Duluth FC (football club).

If you know Joao, you're probably aware that he has worked pretty much every campus job available to Crown students. You probably also know that his favorite one is creating digital content for the Men's Soccer team. Joao is currently a senior and has been documenting Men's Soccer since his freshmen year.

This summer, Joao was hired to do the same thing—capture and share photos and videos—for Duluth FC. "Duluth FC is a semi-professional team, so it was more fast-paced and demanding than I was used to covering soccer at the college level," Joao said. "It pushed me to improve and manage my time better." Time-management was essential, as Joao was almost singularly responsible for the team's social content on YouTube, Instagram, X, and Facebook.

One of his favorite things about the internship was living in Duluth and traveling with the team to surrounding states. Joao grew up in Rio de Janeiro and enjoys any opportunity to explore beyond our campus grounds. When asked about challenges, he mentioned a goal that's still unrealized. Though he's been photographing athletic events for many years, he's still waiting to capture that moment when his team wins a championship.

Though Duluth FC didn't make the conference playoffs this year, Joao met all of his other internship goals. In addition to looking great on a resume, this position allowed him to make valuable industry connections. One of the professionals he impressed was his supervisor, John Shuster, who notably led Team USA to gold in curling at the 2018 Winter Olympics!

“Joao has an amazing ability to capture key moments during matches and make them stand out. When given direction, he is very quick to make adjustments and follows through on every task.”
- John Shuster, Duluth FC Co-owner & Olympic Gold Medalist

To end this post, here are a few of the photographs Joao took for Duluth FC. In these images, Joao has captured the action on the field, the atmosphere of the game, and the close moments between coaches and teammates that fans wouldn't be able to see otherwise. We're very proud of the work Joao did for Duluth FC and are hoping the next team he joins wins that championship moment!
